PROJECT

Noise Solution

PURPOSE

To improve the self-esteem and confidence of young people facing challenging circumstances

FUNDING

Noise Solution is funded by commissioning bodies. A recent project targeting 50 young people in Ipswich was funded by a £125,000 grant from the Opportunity Area programme

BACKGROUND

Noise Solution chief executive Simon Glenister spent 20 years working with challenging young people, starting in a youth offending team in east London and moving to Connexions in Suffolk. “It became apparent there were lots of young people where engagement was an issue, often because of power imbalances between professionals and young people,” he says. “I noticed what did work well was creating spaces where kids felt good about something.” In order to help a young person change their view of themselves and boost their confidence and self-esteem it was also important to involve parents, carers and others important in their lives, he adds. The project, which is based in Bury St Edmunds, operates across Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Essex.
